Following the reclassification of this area of Acton currently occupied with predominantly light industrial units into a new town centre there is a huge potential for intensification which incorporates existing uses along with new residential units.
Our proposals therefore seek to provide new mixed use development including build to rent, live work and a variety of small flexible working spaces to rejuvenate this site and act as a catalyst to the surrounding sites which are yet to be developed. The site layout draws from the existing context with a series of interconnected yards where activities can merge and spill out on to the street to encourage the creation of a vibrant new community.
These courtyards divide the scheme into three blocks, the first two of will be permanent buildings drawing and reinterpreting the industrial heritage of the site and contain 100 new apartments along with communal spaces and roof terraces. The last is envisioned as a temporary structure utilised for small commercial and light industrial uses which can then be replaced with a new permanent building once the surrounding plots have been redeveloped, and the possibilities for this area of the site reactivated.
The scheme will provide a residential strategy that re-imagines the industrial history of the site as a set of design drivers.
