Tigg + Coll were asked to reconfigure the proposed common areas for a new student project in Newcastle. The previous proposals featured small spaces divided by corridors and partitions. Tigg + Coll have opened up the common areas, allowing for larger events and increased opportunities for social interactions.
Referencing Newcastle’s rich industrial heritage and with a nod to the former use of the site, the overall concept aesthetic proposes a palette of textured and corrugated materials, exposed concrete and reclaimed timber, set against soft furnishings and upholstered seating. The common areas offer a dedicated study area for focused solo working, a sociable games area, an integrated laundry with a bar for events and integrated seating for seminars and workshops.
