Elgin Crescent

Tigg + Coll were approached by a family whose west London home needed to be extended due to a growing family and the extra needs that this produces.

As a result we were commissioned to consider a new basement extension and refurbishment proposal. The challenge was to consider how this could be integrated into the house so the new elements had a clear link back to the existing home both functionally and aesthetically. The critical aspect was how to get daylight to penetrate deep into the house.

By linking a series of double height void spaces between the raised ground and lower ground and then onto basement spaces we proposed to extend forming a series of cascading spaces down in to the new basement below. This allowed a dramatic visual link right down into the basement snug from the entrance at ground floor. We also created a ‘dining bridge’ concept set between voids down to the new family spaces below and out into the garden beyond creating a unique entertaining space for the client.
